“The Shards”: Jacob Elordi Reportedly Eyed to Star in Luca Guadagnino’s Next HBO Series

Euphoria star Jacob Elordi is reportedly being considered to star in Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming series adaptation of The Shards. The series is based on Bret Easton Ellis‘ fictionalized memoir of his final year of high school.

According to World of Reel, Elordi met with Guadagnino while they were recently in Venice for the film festival, where they had a conversation about a potential role in the HBO project.

Should the Australian actor sign onto the project, this would mark his latest project with HBO following the acclaimed Zendaya-led teen drama, which is still slated to return for a third season. Elordi will next be seen in Emerald Fennell’s psychological thriller Saltburn with Barry Keoghan, as well as Sofia Coppola’s biopic drama Priscilla.

The Shards will be directed by the Call Me by Your Name filmmaker after collaborating with HBO for his limited series We Are Who We Are. The adaptation will be written and executive produced by Ellis along with Nick Hall and Brian Young. Set in 1981, the story centers around a group of wealthy high school friends who goes to an elite prep school. Everything changes with the arrival of a new student with a mysterious past.

“Seventeen-year-old Bret is a senior at the exclusive Buckley prep school when a new student arrives with a mysterious past. Robert Mallory is bright, handsome, charismatic, and shielding a secret from Bret and his friends even as he becomes a part of their tightly knit circle. Bret’s obsession with Mallory is equaled only by his increasingly unsettling preoccupation with the Trawler, a serial killer on the loose who seems to be drawing ever closer to Bret and his friends, taunting them—and Bret in particular—with grotesque threats and horrific, sharply local acts of violence.”

Jacob Elordi Joins Richard Gere in Paul Schrader’s ‘Oh, Canada’

Jacob Elordi is trading in his Aussie accent for a Canadian drawl in Paul Schrader’s “Oh, Canada.”

IndieWire can confirm that the star of this year’s “Saltburn” and “Priscilla” has officially joined Schrader’s upcoming film alongside Richard Gere. “Oh, Canada” is an adaptation of late author Russell Banks’ 2021 novel “Foregone.” The novel follows a dying documentary filmmaker who comes to terms with his legacy. Ove the weekend, Schrader shared a photo of the two actors on Facebook during the “rehearsal” for the film. Reps close to the project confirmed Elordi’s casting, though details have yet been shared about the production start or his specific role.

Previously, Schrader described the film to IndieWire as about “Canada being a metaphor for death,” he said. ‘It’s my ‘Ivan Ilyich.’”

Per publisher HarperCollins’ official synopsis of “Foregone,” the book centers on a famed Canadian American leftist documentary filmmaker Leonard Fife, one of 60,000 draft evaders and deserters who fled to Canada to avoid serving in Vietnam, is dying of cancer in Montreal and has agreed to a final interview in which he is determined to bare all his secrets at last, to demythologize his mythologized life. The interview is filmed by his acolyte and ex–star student, Malcolm MacLeod, in the presence of Fife’s wife and alongside Malcolm’s producer, cinematographer, and sound technician, all of whom have long admired Fife but who must now absorb the meaning of his astonishing, dark confession.

Priscilla lands interim SAG-AFTRA agreement allowing stars Jacob Elordi and Cailee Spaeny to attend the film’s world premiere in Venice

Nearly a month after the Venice Film Festival unveiled its lineup featuring the highly-anticipated biopic Priscilla, stars Jacob Elordi and Cailee Spaeny are now allowed to walk the red carpet.

The lineup was announced in late July, just weeks after actors union SAG-AFTRA went on strike July 12, with one of the provisions of the strike being that no actor can promote any of their films made by a struck company.

The film has landed a SAG-AFTRA Interim agreement, according to Deadline, which would allow Elordi, 26, and Spaeny, 25, to attend the world premiere screening and walk the red carpet during the 80th Venice Film Festival.

Priscilla was produced by A24 – which is not a part of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) and has gotten interim agreements for two other films during the strike.

However, the film’s agreement has more to do with the fact that it was filmed in Canada under the TCB Productions Canada banner, than its affiliation with A24.

Catch Jacob Elordi and Ayo Edebiri in the absurd American satire “The Sweet East”

If you’ve been looking for the next grainy, indie, dark satire to fill the void of shows like The End of the F***ing World or a Safdie brothers film, then look no further than Sean Prince Williams’ absurd American odyssey film The Sweet East. Fresh from its Cannes Film Festival premiere earlier this year (during the Directors’ Fortnight section), the film features both Euphoria heartthrob Jacob Elordi and The Bear’s breakout star, Ayo Edebiri. The film is Prince Williams’ directorial debut, who also wrote the screenplay alongside Nick Pinkerton. Shot in his signature 16mm grain, the film makes for a grungy, dark and comedic ride.

The film follows disaffected high school senior, Lillian Wade, whose school trip to Washington D.C. is suddenly derailed by gun-toting Pizzagate conspiracy theorist. Escaping sudden chaos with emo-punk and self-identified ‘artivist’ Caleb, Lilian falls in with his travelling crew of trust-fund anarchists before leap-frogging between a myriad of all-American caricatures and cults – from a delusional director-producer duo desperate to have her star in their bizarre, butter-themed film, As It Churned, to being taken in by a professor and Edgar Allen Poe fan, who happens to also be a white-supremacist Neo Nazi. Throughout, we see Lilian carve out her own kind of Americana narrative through a picaresque journey along the underbelly of the East Coast – a journey that sees her countless opportunities for reinvention.

The film’s breakout star is Talia Ryder (who you may remember from Netflix’s Do Revenge or her part in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story), who plays the lead of Lilian. She stars alongside Elordi (who is also leading Sofia Coppola’s A24 Priscilla film), Edebiri, Jeremy O. Harris and Earl Cave (son of Nick Cave).

A picaresque journey through contemporary America, undertaken by a young woman granted access to the strange sects and cults that proliferate in this country by a series of gatekeepers eager to win her over.
